The Village of Oak Brook is always looking for ways to build a safe, healthy, and resilient community for our residents. Residents are calling on the Village to be more transparent, efficient, collaborative, and productive. A Village that meets these challenges is considered a Smart Community.
Technology is the defining factor for a Smart Community. It is modern technology that enables departments to increase communication, effectiveness, and openness. Technology gives governments and their residents access to powerful information that they can leverage to make more informed decisions.
Smart Communities promote efficiency. Time no longer has to be wasted in duplication of efforts by different staff. Departments can now share relevant and timely information throughout the organization, helping staff across all departments collaborate and deliver a higher level of service. With a common information system like Geographical Information Systems (GIS), staff have access to the tools they need to create, manage, and share authoritative information and applications.
As part of this Smart Community initiative; the Village has created a Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) "Story Map" that will detail CIP projects that will display projects both historically and into the future. A Story Map is an innovative way that the Village has to display project related data with a corresponding map or aerial imagery.
