The
Sports Core
The people of the Village of Oak
Brook are fortunate to have a large, beautiful
green area in the center of their Village. The
Oak Brook Sports Core, some 269 acres of open green
space and sports facilities, is a part of the fascinating
history of Oak Brook. In June of 1977, Oak Brook
residents voted to institute the first municipal
tax to purchase the Sports Core from Paul Butler,
founder of the Village. The bonds to finance the
purchase of the Sports Core were retired in December
1994. The Sports Core is now owned and operated
by the Village of Oak Brook for the benefit of
the residents.
The Sports Core property includes
the Oak Brook Bath & Tennis Club, Oak Brook
Golf Club, the Oak Brook Polo Grounds and the Open
Fields. The Sports Core property is zoned Conservation/Recreation.
The Village maintains the Sports Core's open land
and facilities which have been so instrumental
in attracting residents and businesses to Oak Brook.
Maintenance and improvements of the Sports Core
are largely funded by user fees.
User fees are required for:
- Bath & Tennis Club Season Membership
- Golf Club Season Membership & Daily Fees
- Open Field use

History
In the
early 1920s, Paul Butler began to acquire substantial
parcels of land, owning 2,800 acres by 1958, the
year the Village was incorporated. By 1963, Mr. Butler
had realized his dream: a 3,600-acre planned community.
A key ingredient in his early dream was the Sports
Core, where residents could enjoy a variety of sports.
Over the years, the Sports Core has featured golf,
polo, foxhunting, trap, skeet and game shooting;
an airfield for private planes, field and target
archery, and miles of bridle trails. Today, we enjoy
golf and polo, as well as swimming, tennis, soccer,
ice skating, cross-country skiing and numerous other
activities and events.
The Sports Core sponsors
many special events each year:
