When to call 9 – 1 – 1

  • Someone has fallen and is unable to get up
  • Chest pain
  • Uncontrolled bleeding or fracture
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Seizure
  • A traffic accident
  • Debris in the roadway
  • Suspicious activity
  • Anything that causes a person or property to be in danger

If you dial 9 – 1 – 1 in error, please stay on the phone line, the connection will be made to our center even if you hang-up. Just tell the communications operator you have dialed in error.

How to make a 9 – 1 – 1 Call

  • Call from a safe place: Get away from sources of danger (fire, gas leak, etc.). Call from a neighbor’s house or pay phone. (Phone calls made from a pay phone to 9 – 1 – 1 are free.)
  • Stay calm: Speak clearly and slowly, this is to make sure you get the help you need.
  • Answer all questions: Provide any information that the emergency communications operator asks for. What is the exact location of the incident, what exactly has happened, the phone number where you are calling from, etc.
  • Listen for instructions: Do what the communications operator instructs you to do.
  • Stay on the line: Do not hang-up until you have been told to do so
