Community
Development
The Department of Community Development is charged
with the implementation of the Village's Comprehensive
Plan, Zoning Ordinance, Building Codes, Subdivision
Regulations, and other Village Codes as they relate
to the built environment of the community.
The Department includes two functions -
Planning
and Zoning and
Code
Enforcement. Both are under the direction
of the Director of Community Development Robert
Kallien.
Code Enforcement
This function includes enforcement of the building codes for all new construction
and alteration of buildings. It also is responsible for the field enforcement
of zoning regulations. The division accomplishes the above through the building
permit process. It reviews plans, issues permits, and inspects construction
as it proceeds in order to assure a safe built environment as defined by
the building codes. Chief Building Inspector Don Hastings has the responsibility
for code enforcement activities.
Planning
and Zoning
This division is primarily concerned with the development, maintenance,
and implementation of the Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and Subdivision
Regulations through the Zoning Petition process. As such it works closely
with the Board of Trustees, Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals
in the review and public hearing process for requests for Map and Text
Amendments, Appeals, Variations, Special Uses, and Plats of Subdivision.
These requests are handled by Director Kallien acting as Secretary to the
Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals.
Zoning Petitions may be submitted generally by property
owners, the Village authorities, and others with
legitimate interests.
