The Police Department

The The Police Department has 57 full and part time personnel. This number includes radio personnel ( 7 full/ 1 part time ), and 38 sworn officers. The department structure for sworn personnel consist of a Chief of Police, Deputy Chief, Field Division Commander, Support Services division Commander, Investigation Division Commander, 7 Sergeants, 4 Detectives, 2 Crime Prevention/Comminity Relations Officers, A Tactical Unit officer and 23 patrol officers, one of which is our K-9 Unit. There are also 3 part time Community Service Officers.

ADMINISTRATION
This Department is responsible for organizing, planning, directing, and evaluating the Village Police Department. Also the Office of the Chief of Police directs the formulation and implementation of Police Department philosophy and standards; formulate and approves short and long term goals and objectives; and plans and budgets for all Police Department functions including

  • Developing, presenting and securing approval of fiscal-year budgets and goals for operations and administrative areas; and
  • Monitoring progress to goals, objectives and budgets and making necessary adjustments.

CALEA

On July 26, 2009, the Oak Brook Police Department received national accreditation for the third time by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA).

ON-SITE ASSESSMENT IS SCHEDULED AS PART OF A PROGRAM TO ACHIEVE REACCREDITATION BY VERIFYING THE DEPARTMENT MEETS PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS.

The accreditation program required our agency to comply with 463 law enforcement standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.

This accomplishment represents the satisfactory completion of a continuous process of thorough agency-wide self-evaluation, concluded by an exacting outside review by a team of independent assessors, and a final interview with the CALEA Board.

The Oak Brook Police Department has earned a place in the upper echelon of the nation's law enforcement community by receiving the distinguished status of being an accredited police department.  We have met the professionally recognized criteria for excellence in management and the delivery of excellent service.

The accreditation of the Oak Brook Police Department is for three years.

There are only 60 accredited police agencies in Illinois.
