Water Division

In 1992, the Village, as well as twenty-three other DuPage municipalities began receiving Lake Michigan water from the newly formed DuPage Water Commission. The Commission purchases and receives the water from the City of Chicago, which in turn utilizes Lake Michigan as its source. Prior to 1992, the Village relied on both deep sandstone and shallow limestone wells for its source. These wells, which are noted for their extreme mineral content (hardness) and taste and odor qualities are still operational but have been regulated to "stand-by" service in the event the Commission is unable to supply our needs. During the past nine years, this has only occurred twice, and then, only for a couple of hours. Since the switch to Lake water, which has a hardness of 7.5-8.5 grains per gallon, many customers have found that there is no longer a need to soften the water. However, this is an individual choice and the Village cannot recommend one way or the other.

WATER QUALITY REPORT
The Village is required to prepare an annual report on the quality of water provided by our system. To read about the current water quality, access our 2002 Water Quality Report .

RESTRICTIONS
Many customers might think that because we are supplied with Lake water, watering restrictions are unnecessary. This is not the case. Contractually, we are restricted to how much we can obtain through the Commission, and like the other end users of Lake water, outside watering restrictions are mandated. The following are watering restrictions for the Village. Please note, these restrictions were developed to insure sufficient and proper times to satisfy lawn care needs.
