RTA Reduced Fare Program

What Is the RTA Reduced Fare Card?

The Reduced Fare Card, offered by the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), allows senior citizens and qualified persons with disabilities to ride all RTA services at a reduced rate. These services include CTA buses and rapid transit, Pace buses, and Metra Trains in the six-county region served by the RTA (Cook, DuPage, Lake, Kane, McHenry and Will).

How Do You Apply For a Reduced Fare Card?

The Village of Oak Brook is an authorized registration center for the RTA Reduced Fare Card program. All applicants must complete the registration process in person. The senior citizen applicant must present one form of identification (i.e. drivers license with photo; State I.D. card with photo; U.S. Immigration Alien I.D. both front and back; passport, only inner section with photo and date of birth; official government I.D. with photo and birth date). These are the only accepted forms of identification.

A colored photo of the applicant, approximately 1-1/2 x 1-1/2”, is required. It must be a front view with a contrasting background. No hats, scarves, head-bands or sunglasses must restrict the applicant’s photo. (Note: Passport photos can be processed at Jewel/Osco or Walgreen stores for a nominal fee).

The completed application form, a copy of the applicant’s I.D. and the color photo will be sent by the Village to the RTA.

The applicant will receive the Reduced Fare Card directly from the RTA–processing time is approximately 4-6 weeks.

Registration is available at the Village Hall Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Applicant questions can be directed to the Administration Department at 630-368-5000
