H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu) Update: The CDC confirms 900+ H1N1 cases; Develops diagnostic test kit for states
Due to the intensifying outbreak of H1N1 Flu (swine influenza A) in the United States and internationally, the CDC expects that more cases, more hospitalizations and more deaths from this outbreak will occur over the coming days and weeks.(More info online at:
http://www.hhs.gov/)
The United States Government has declared a public health emergency in the United States. The CDC's response goals are to reduce spread and illness severity, and provide information to help health care providers, public health officials and the public address the challenges posed by this emergency. The CDC is issuing updated interim guidance daily in response to the rapidly evolving situation.
Antiviral Guidance:
CDC has issued guidance for health care providers on the use of antiviral medications during the current outbreak. The priority use for influenza antiviral drugs is to treat severe influenza illness and people who are at high risk of serious influenza-related conditions.
School Guidance:
At this time, CDC recommends the primary means to reduce spread of influenza in schools focus on early identification of ill students and staff, staying home when sick, and good cough etiquette and frequent hand washing. Decisions about school closure should be at the discretion of local authorities based on local considerations. (See the School Guidance.)
Increased Testing:
CDC has developed a PCR diagnostic test kit to detect this novel H1N1 virus and has now distributed test kits to all states in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. The test kits are being shipped internationally as well. This will allow states and other countries to test for this new virus. This increase in testing capacity is likely to result in an increase in the number of reported confirmed cases in this country, which should provide a more accurate picture of the burden of disease in the United States.
This is a rapidly evolving situation and Village of Oak Brook will provide updated guidance and new information as it becomes available via this website. Please view the CDC's Website and DuPage County Health Department information on via the links below.
The Flagg Creek Water Reclamation District recently established a policy for metered water used for irrigation by Oak Brook residents. The Seasonal Irrigation Cap Program restricts the sewer user charge during the seasonal period to a maximum limit of 1.5 x the average "winter" use.
To be eligible for the program, the residential user must complete a Seasonal Irrigation Cap Program Application and submit the application to the District. An application fee of $20.00 is required for administrative set-up of the cap. Only one application for such cap and meter will be allowed per calendar year per residence.

There are currently more than 450 ComEd crews involved in restoration work, and they expect to restore 90 percent of the remaining customers by late tonight. ComEd anticipates restoring the remaining customers on Friday.
Tree branches that are 6 inches in diameter or smaller and are less than 6 feet long should be brought out to the curb by 3:00 p.m. on June 30th. Village crews will be chipping branches between today and early July.
Emergency Cooling Centers are being set up at the Oak Brook Public Library in their Meeting Room, the Oak Brook Village Hall in their Break Room, and the Oak Brook Park District at their Racquet Club and Family Recreation Center facilities.
