Friends and Visitors,
Thus far April has been a difficult and heartbreaking month and I am truly hopeful that in May, both the Village and United States will see the benefits and wonders of spring.
As we all know, the recent rainfall caused significant flooding in Oak Brook and throughout the State. Our staff prepared for the storm, responded to both resident and business needs, and has transitioned to the recovery phase. You will see the Village's Public Works crews, engineers, inspectors and other staff, assisting as we help restore Oak Brook over the next few weeks.
Of course, in the meantime please continue to visit the front page of the Village's website for up-to-date information on the clean-up efforts and to learn what you can do to help!
Although a bit of time has already past, the Village of Oak Brook extends our sympathy to the victims of the explosions at the Boston Marathon, their families and the community in Boston for the trauma, loss, and fear that comes from such a senseless act. Our thoughts and appreciation go out to the first responders and all those who aided the injured so selflessly in the midst of the chaos.
Here are several things you can do to help those affected by this tragedy.
1. The Salvation Army is providing support to survivors and first responders. The best way to be of assistance is by making a financial contribution on their website.
Personnel trained in crisis response are providing a service as well. If you would like to volunteer for future needs or be trained in disaster response, click here.
2. Donate blood. This is always crucial when disaster strikes. Visit the American Red Cross website and learn how to help. Or call 1-800-RED-CROSS (733-2767).
3. Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino announced the formation of The One Fund Boston at a press conference Tuesday afternoon that will raise money for those families affected by Monday's tragedy.
