The Oak Brook Police department wishes to remind our residents to remain vigilant for suspicious activity. Residential burglaries, also known as Ruse Burglaries have been reported in our community as well as our neighbors. During these types of scams, criminals pose as landscapers, roofers, construction workers, and even local government employees to gain entry into your home. The goal is to convince the homeowner to leave the home under false pretenses or distract them for a short period and then accomplices enter the home without your knowledge and remove valuables.
The Police Department urges residents to ask for credentials, never leave your home unsecured, and if it can be done safely, record license plate or descriptions when in question. Do not forget to lock your home and set alarms when leaving, and lock your car when left unattended. Report any suspicious activity by immediately calling 9-1-1.
